********* 7TH YPFDJ CONFERENCE IN NORWAY OPENS IN A TYPICAL ENERGETIC FERVOR ************

Today Friday 22nd of April 2011, the 7th annual YPFDJ conference in Norway opened with the typical energetic and strong showing of the YPFDJ members from wide ranging countries in Europe and other parts of the world and close to 700 active youth and YPFDJ members from all parts of Europe, United States, Canada, Middle-east and large number from Eritrea took part on the opening day proceedings.

The day started early morning with the customary Flag raising ceremony and taking a group picture of the participants to capture the moment of the conference. All the young members woke up early to take part on day long of shows, meetings, discussions and exhibitions.

The conference remembered our martyrs with special attention of the large number of Eritreans whose life’s passed away on the recent tragedy in the Mediterranean seas.

The conference heard speeches from the leaders of the Scandinavian PFDJ offices and representative of the Eritrean Embassy in Scandinavia. In their speech they recognised the immense efforts and impressive
dedication shown by the youth in Oslo to make this large conference undertaking a tremendous success.

The conference was honoured and elated to receive a video message from the chairman of PFDJ and President of Eritrea Issaias Afwerki especially made for the 7th YPFDJ conference. In the well received video message, President Issias in his message stressed that a success of any nation depends on the dedication and well rounded youth who can show strength and resilience under any adversity. President Issias underlined the nation building process in Eritrea underwent during the last 20 years and the respective investment and efforts made to build Eritrean youth who can be a vanguard of the nation during the different stages of nation building. He recommended the conference attendees to look into the several symposium arranged by the different ministries which illustrates Eritrea’s progress made during the last 20 years of nation building.

In his opening speech, Mr. Yemane Ghebreab the head of Political Affairs of PFDJ spoke of the little miracle that we witnessed by the youth in Oslo. He noted that the basis of our success is the universality of our vision and our developmental programme. He thanked all the stake holders that have contributed to make this conference successful. Mr. Yemane Ghebreab stressed the main subject of this conference is rightly stated as a focus on the strategy of YPFDJ and the leap it needs to make during the coming year to new stages of increasing the consciousness and activities of the youth movement. He also remareked on the aptly timed topic of the conference which will be holding lectures and discussion on different aspects of Sustainable Development.

The conference also received the representative of Youth in Action programme who made a a substantial funding towards the costs of the conference and she was able to make a short presentation to the
conference and changed her plan and decided to spend the on the conference all day. She remarked that she has never spoken to a such large audience and experienced such a truly uniqe and exhilrating atmospher.

The rest of the day was spent on presenting the reports of more than 40 chapters from Europe United States, Middleast, Africa and Eritrea.

The day also included a Book fare of Eritrean books, Exhibition and presentation of ‘Eritrea vision 2041′.

The conference will continue for the next two days until Sunday 25th of April.
