Eritrea: Minister Woldemichael Gebremariam Passed Away (August 4, 2013)

Eri-TV: Asmara, 04 August 2013 — Veteran fighter Mr. Woldemichael Gebremariam, Minister of Local Government, today passed away at the age of 72 in Keren city during his return from a working visit in Gash-Barka region.

Mr. Woldemichael, one of the founders of the Eritrean Liberation Movement (Haraka) and the EPLF, has served in various capacities with dedication here in the Homeland and abroad in the course of the armed struggle for independence, as well as the nation-building process.

The funeral ceremony of the late Woldemichael, who is married and a father of 3, would be conducted next Tuesday at the Martyrs cemetery in Asmara.

The Eritrean Government conveys condolences to the family and companions of the dear departed Minister.

Asmara, 04 August 2013 — Annual Festival of the Eritrean community members in Eastern States, US opened last Friday with patriotic zeal.

The opening ceremony in which the Eritrean Ambassador to the United Nations, Mr. Araya Desta, Mr. Tesfamichael Gerahtu, the Eritrean Ambassador to the UK and Ireland, and Executive of Embassy Affairs in the United States, Mr. Berhane Gebrehiwet, were present, witnessed participation of numerous nationals from various cities.

Moreover, reports indicated that cultural performances staged by natives of Kunama ethnic group residing in the cities of Sioux Falls and Atlanta added color to the event.
The festival is expected to remain open until today.
