Eritrean citizens in Australia and New Zealand contribute over 10,000 dollars in support of martyrs’ families

Eritrean news: Eritrea-Asmara, 22 June 2010 – Eritrean nationals residing in various cities of Australia and New Zealand reiterated commitment to support martyrs’ families and subsequently donated 10,000 dollars to this end. They also assumed the responsibility of assisting more than 30 families of fallen heroes.
Speaking at the Martyrs Day commemorative event, the Eritrean Consul General in Australia and New Zealand, Mr. Beshir Idrisnor, stated that June 20 is a historical day that shoulders us all heavy responsibility to reinforce the honor of martyrs’ trust and build a developed nation. He further commended the nationals for taking benevolent initiative towards supporting families of fallen heroes and augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.

Noting that the Government is disbursing substantial budget in assisting martyrs’ families parallel with the implementation of development programs, Mr. Beshir explained that the support being extended by Eritrean citizens at home and abroad to martyrs’ families fully attests to their commitment to honor the trust of martyrs. Moreover, he indicated that Eritreans in Melbourne city have so far contributed 60,000 US dollars, besides assuming the responsibility of assisting over 80 families of fallen heroes.

Similarly, Eritrean citizens living in Abu Dhabi and its environs, UAE, pledged to assume the responsibility of supporting 10 additional martyrs’ families, besides boosting the Martyrs Trust Fund. The nationals voiced determination to live up to the trust of martyrs who sacrificed their dear lives in the struggle to achieve independence and safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.

The Eritrean Charge d’Affairs in UAE, Mr. Al-Amin Nafie, called on every Eritrean national to step up contribution in supporting families of martyrs.
