More PhD Scholars from Eritrea Begin Studies at JKUAT – Kenya

Eritrean news: Six students from Eritrea under Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) sponsorship are scheduled to commence their doctorate studies at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology during the 2013-2014 academic year.

The scholars who will carry out their research in the areas of Food Science and Technology, Biotechnology Research, Horticulture, Chemistry and Statistics are already at the University to defend their proposals before getting their formal admissions.

Last year, the University received a total of 17 Eritrean students who included four PhD scholars and 13 Masters of Science students from various Eritrean Universities, all sponsored by the National Board of Higher Education of Eritrea.

Meanwhile, Dr. Woldeamlak Araia, (pictured above) from the Hamelmalo Agricultural College (HAC) Eritrea, becomes the first visiting lecturer from Eritrea under the JKUAT –JICA-Eritrea memorandum of Understanding. He will be lecturing in the Faculty of Agriculture for two months (July and August 2013).
